Cosa 2019

Excavation Season

Expansion Of Our Team

Last year, 2018, was the first year that undergraduates were invited to participate in our project. This year, we tripled the number of undergraduates, creating a new and exciting dimension to the Cosa Excavations team. The undergraduates, who rotated to each trench over the course of the excavation season so as not to miss out on any exciting finds, spoke about their experience while at Cosa. You can watch a video with some of their testimonials here!

Excavating The Bath

The seventh season of excavation at Cosa closed with as many questions as we had answers. Our efforts this season focused on many locations throughout the bath, at both ends and in the center of the complex. From what we can see, there are many phases to the bath. These phases are clear evidence that this structure had a long and interesting life. In the next season, we hope to explore these questions about the chronology of the bath and focus in on the remaining areas that are left to excavate.

Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more…

As we approach the end of excavation of the bath complex, we try to answer questions about the structure’s life as a bath, but also whether any materials point towards what this area of Cosa was before the bath was constructed. The next season, 2024, may be our final excavation season of the bath complex, but we have much in store for the future. Cosa is a big site! Look for Cosa at the AIA Annual Meeting and other conferences and meetings in both the USA and Europe in 2023 and 2024 and for the complete publication of our excavation very soon.
